Now, Undo "Send" In Gmail

Have you ever tried to undo a sent e-mail in Gmail? Try it if you haven't coz you can do it. It’s a lesser known feature, but Google just made it even better than it was before. Previously, you were given a 5-second window during which you could hit “undo.” So, no one really talked about it. But now, according to Google Operating System, that’s up to 30 seconds. This feature is hidden and so most users don't know where to look. But be aware that the feature is part of Gmail Labs. So, it’s still in testing and it might not always work as intended.

Gmail, undo send, Gmail Labs

You will have to go to the Gmail Labs page to activate it. Once you load Gmail, you will see the green Labs icon between your e-mail address and Settings in the top-right corner of the page. Give it a click. On the Labs page, you’ll be presented with a list of features Google is testing in Gmail. Some of these features are very useful and some are just fun. Browse to the bottom of the list. You’ll usually find the Undo Send option close to the bottom of the list. Just select Enable then scroll down and save your changes.

Gmail gives you a 10-second window of time in which you may undo a sent e-mail. That is the default setting. You can change that to 5, 20 or 30 seconds by going to Settings which you will find in the top right corner of the main Gmail page, right next to the Labs icon and then go to the "General" tab to find the the Undo Send section. There you can enable or disable Undo Send and change the duration with a drop-down selection box.

Now your Undo Send is enabled, it works every time you send a new e-mail. Click the “Undo” button after you send an e-mail. You will have either five, 10, 20 or 30 seconds to undo your sent e-mail, depending on your selection under Settings. Soon after you hit Send, a line of text appears above your Inbox saying “Your message has been sent.” It will be accompanied by a few extra options. Among them will be “Undo.” If you click that your e-mail wont be sent. You can also hit “Z” on your keyboard, which is the Gmail shortcut for undo.

This immediately takes you back to the e-mail composition page. Your e-mail will be in draft form, ready for further editing or deletion.
