Reliance 4G tab to launch by end of 2012 with low cost data services

Reliance is going to launch 4G data services in India by 2012 end. Reliance Communications has revealed its plans to offer high-speed data services on tablets worth Rs 3,500 by the end of 2012.

These data cards were to be plugged into computers and laptops.People familiar with the matter have revealed that RIL plans to launch tablets at around Rs 3,500 and bundle it with data offering as low as 1 GB at Rs 10(a tenth of the current 3G prices) in INDIA.Reliance 4G tablet will be coming out with Qualcomm processor and 4G LTE services.

This kind of entry price could affect the business case for 3G for existing mobile operators, all of whom on an average offer 1 GB of download for Rs 100 at present. It is worth mentioning here that RIL is the only company to have pan-India spectrum to offer wireless broadband services on the 4G technology platform having paid Rs 13,000 crore for these airwaves.

RIL had already revealed its plans to launch services based on Qualcomm's Long Term Evolution,LTE technology which is currently in test phase.Global service providers like Vodafone, Verizon and Telenor have deployed LTE networks in some developed markets.

Google agreed to acquire Motorola Mobility Holdings for $12.5 billion gives the search giant a more significant direct involvement in the design and production of mobile phone hardware and shores up a valuable intellectual property portfolio.

India Adds 8.5million people to mobile telecom network in June

Indian telecom sector has increases 8.58 million new GSM connections to their number during June taking the all-India GSM cellular subscriber base to 598.77 million,  Airtel stands first and largest player with 2.12 million new subscribers with the total users touching 169.18 million and a market share of 28.26 percent.Vodafone Essar added 2.09 million new subscribers with the total user base touching 141.51 million and a market share 23.63 percent.

Idea Cellular added 1.35 million users during the month to take its total user base to 95.10 million, while Aircel added 0.91 million customers taking its subscriber base to 57.98 million.State-run telecom operators Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd added 8,42,723 and 1,597 customers respectively taking their total user base to 88.46 million and 5.24 million.Uninor added 943,924 to have a total of 26.33 million subscribers.

Tamil ndu Govt to Provide Laptops to Students With Open source Operating System LINUX

Newly elected Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa announced the distribution of 9.12 lakh free laptops to students. The state-run Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) has invited international competitive tenders for this big order.

T Shrinivasan, coordinator, ILUGC(Indian Linux Users Group-Chennai), says, "Assuming that the basic cost for the proprietary OS licence is Rs 1000, the cost of just the licences for the 9.12 lakh laptops will be a whopping amount of Rs 91.2 crore. 

Incidentally, the antivirus software is offered as a part of the package for just one year. This implies that the students will have to pay to renew the licence every year. The other option is that they opt for a pirated version of it. In the case where students choose to renew the licence and anti-virus software, the chances of them approaching the right people are few.

Besides, it is a well known fact that Microsoft provides support for its products only for a stipulated time period. There have been no comments on how the students would get technical assistance once the product is officially withdrawn from the market.

 Edubuntu is aimed at students. Apart from that, the user can customise the laptop for future needs such as scientific research, electronics and software development, etc. These operating systems can be customised to the extent that local languages (like Tamil) can also be incorporated. This can be appealing for the student community. The open source OSs are, by and large, free from viruses, which ensures a more stable system.

74,000 mobile users convert over to BSNL

BSNL Ap Circle stood first in the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) era in the State attracting over 74,000 customers since the MNP facility was launched on January 20.

“BSNL is doing exceedingly well under MNP in Andhra Pradesh. There have been more than 74,000 migrations into BSNL from other operators while 24,000 users opted out of BSNL under MNP which has crossed over 1 lakh in port-in requests,” the Chief General Manager of (AP Telecom Circle), Mr Rajeev Agarwal, told presspersons here.

“In terms of net additions 50,000 new customers opted for BSNL under MNP and it is a clear indication of customer acceptance of BSNL mobile service,” he said.

BSNL's 3G services has been well accepted in the Ap market and has over 1.54 lakh 3G connections in the State, he said.
