It may not look like a big news to most of you, but those having interest in robotics will definitely appreciate it. A four legged robot named Ranger recentlycovered 14,3 miles (23 kms) in 10 hours, 40 minutes, and 48 seconds (speed: approx 2km/hr), while breaking the previous record of 12.8 miles by Big Dog.
Another important thing to note here is that it completed 14.3 miles in a single charge, and used just 3 cents worth of power for this walk. It uses very less power to operate, hence this technology will be helpful in completing “money deficient” long tasks.
On the negative side, Ranger was controlled by a remote control all the time. Also the record was set on a plain surface, and i doubt its performance on uneven surfaces. But still i generously appreciate the work done by Cornell University.
