After following these many tips it is advisable to your smart phone as just a phone.

How to speed up the Broadband & Dsl Connections

Following settings allow you to boost the speed of your broadband Internet connection when using a Cable Modem or DSL Router with Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Steps for Boosting up your broad band :

  • Open your registry and find the key below.
  • Create the following DWORD values, and these values will not already exist you will need to create them by clicking on 'Edit -> New -> DWORD Value' and then set the value as shown below.
  • DefaultTTL = "80" hex (or 128 decimal)
  • Specifies the default time to live (TTL) for TCP/IP packets. The default is 32.
  • EnablePMTUBHDetect = "0"
  • Specifies whether the stack will attempt to detect Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) routers that do not send back ICMP fragmentation-needed messages. The default is 0.
  • EnablePMTUDiscovery = "1"
  • Specifies whether the TCP/IP stack will attempt to perform path MTU discovery as specified in RFC 1191. The default is 1.
  • GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = "7FFF" hex (or 32767 decimal)
  • Specifies the system maximum receive window size advertised by the TCP/IP stack.
  • TcpMaxDupAcks = "2"
  • Determines the number of duplicate ACKs that must be received for the same sequence number of sent data before "fast retransmit" is triggered.
  • SackOpts = "1"
  • Enables support for selective acknowledgements as documented by Request for Comment (RFC) 2018. Default is 0.
  • Tcp1323Opts = "1"
  • Controls RFC 1323 time stamps and window scaling options.

How to repair microsoft Windows XP

Steps for REPAIRING Windows XP PROCESS:

Start the Registry Editor by typing regedit from the Run box.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \ Installed Components \ {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

and then

right-click the “IsInstalled value.” Click Modify.

From there, you will change the value from 1 to 0. All right, go ahead and close the editor and reinstall IE from this location. /http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx

SOMETHING GOES WRONG:

If something goes horribly wrong, you can use Last Known Good Configuration (F8 Safe Mode) or a Restore Point to get back to where you were before, with your settings.

Then you can try again, this time taking care to watch the portion of the registry you are changing. Most people who have troubles with this end up changing the wrong registry key.

How to find a remote IP of any one

Following are the methods for finding IP adress of any one

Method 1
:

To view someone's IP# when they send you hotmail email do this:
  • Click "Options" on the upper right side of the page.
  • On the left side of the page, Click "Mail"
  • Click "Mail Display Settings"
  • Under "Message Headers" select "Full" or "Advanced"
  • Click ok

Method 2 :

reg a dydns account and install the ip pointer, so each time you ping the host name you regestored

for example: you regestor the host name myhost.dydns.com, then you keep a little software running on the target host. The little software will keep update your IP to dydns.com server.

so at your pc just start cmd, and ping myhost.dydns.com, it will give you the most updated ip address.

Method 3:

neverender, what doesn't work for you? Simply type in nc -vvv -l -p 80 on your box, which will set it to listen in verbose mode on port 80. Then give them a link to your IP address (for example: 111.111.111.11) and tell them to type it in their browser. The browser should resolve the address as well as append port 80 automatically. Just make sure that your friend is not very computer literate.

Method 4:

Just download a very simple server such as this one and install it on your comp. Then run it and give your ip to the person you want and tell them to connect to it through a browser. Your server will log their connection and you will get their IP.

IP ADDRESS STRUCTURE:

Every station on a PSN (packet switched network) that is based on the TCP/IP protocol (your computer is one, for example. Yes, we're referring to a host that is connected to the net) must have an IP address, so it can be identified, and information can be relayed and routed to it in an orderly fashion.

An IP address consists of a 32 bit logical address. The address is divided into two fields:

1) The network address:

Assigned by InterNIC (Internet Network Information Center). In fact most ISPs (internet service providers) purchase a number of addresses and assign them individually.

2) The host address:

An address that identifies the single nodes throughout the network. It can be assigned by the network manager, by using protocols for it such as DHCP, or the workstation itself. The IP networking protocol is a logically routed protocol, meaning that address 192.43.54.2 will be on the same physical wire as address 192.43.54.3 (of course this is not always true. It depends on the subnet mask of the network, but all of that can fill a text of its own)

IP address structure:

---.---.---.---

^ ^
| |
network | host

  • Every " --- " = 8 bits.
  • The first bits ===> network address
  • The last bits ===> host address.
  • with 8 bits you can present from 0-255 . (binary=(2 to the power of 8)-1)

Example:
11000010.01011010.00011111.01001010 (binary)
194.90.31.74 (decimal)
IP address CLASSES :
We can classify IP addreses to 5 groups. You can distinguish them by comparing the "High

Order" bits (the first four bits on the
left of the address):

type | model | target | MSB |addr.range |bit number| max.stations|
| | groups | | |net./hosts| |
------|--------|--------|-----|--------------|----------|-------------|
A |N.h.h.h | ALL | 0 | 1.0.0.0 | 24/7 | 16,777,214 |
| | ACCEPT | | to | | |
| | HUGE | | 127.0.0.0 | | |
| | CORPS | | | | |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
|N.N.h.h | TO ALL | 10 | 128.1.00 | 16/14 | 65,543 |
B | | LARGE | | to | | |
| | CORPS | | 191.254.00 | | |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
|N.N.N.h |TO ALOT | 110 | 192.0.1.0 | 8/22 | 254 |
C | |OF | | to | | |
| |SMALL | | 223.225.254 | | |
| |CORPS | | | | |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
D | NONE |MULTI-CA|1110 | 224.0.0.0 | NOT FOR | UNKNOWN |
| |ST ADDR.| | to | USUAL | |
| |RFC-1112| |239.255.255.255| USE | |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
E | NOT FOR|EXPERIME|1,1,1,1| 240.0.0.0 |NOT FOR| NOT FOR USE|
| USE |NTAL | | to |USE | |
| |ADDR. | |254.255.255.255| | |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

N=NETWORK , h=HOST .

Notice the address range 127.X.X.X.
These addresses are assigned to internal use to the network device, and are used as an application tool only. For example: 127.0.0.1, the most common one, is called the loopback address - everything sent here goes directly back to you, without even traveling out on the wire.
Also, some IPs are reserved for VPNs - Virtual Private Networks. These arelocal area networks over wide area networks that use the Internet Protocol tocommunicate, and each computer inside the network is assigned with an IPaddress. So, suppose a certain computer wants to send a data packet to another host on the network with the IP 'x', but there's also another host on
the Internet that has the same IP - what happens now? So this is why youcannot use these and other forms of reserved IPs on the Internet.

EXTRA:

Distinguishing different groups:

You have to compare the first byte on the left in the address as follows:

Type | First byte | MSB
| in decimal |
----------------------------
A | 1-127 | 0
----------------------------
B | 128-191 | 10
----------------------------
C | 192-223 | 110
----------------------------
D | 224-239 | 1110
----------------------------
E | 240-254 | 1111
----------------------------

NOTES: Yes, we know, we've left A LOT of things unexplained in this text. With time, we will write more tutorials to cover these and other subjects. So in the meantime, I suggest that you go to http://blacksun.box.sk, find the tutorials page and see if there's anything else that's interesting to you. And remember - we also have a message board, so if you have any questions,
feel free to post them there.

weird shit (newbie note):

1) Multicast:
IP multicasting is the transmission of an IP datagram to a "host group", a set of zero or more hosts identified by a single IP destination address. A multicast datagram is delivered to all members of its destination host group with the same "best-efforts" reliability as regular unicast IP datagrams, i.e., the datagram is not guaranteed to arrive intact at all members of the destination group or in the same order relative to other datagrams.

The membership of a host group is dynamic; that is, hosts may join and leave groups at any time. There is no restriction on the location or number of members in a host group. A host may be a member of more than one group at a time. A host need not be a member
of a group to send datagrams to it.

A host group may be permanent or transient. A permanent group has a well-known, administratively assigned IP address. It is the address, not the membership of the group, that is permanent; at any time a permanent group may have any number of members, even zero. Those IP multicast addresses that are not reserved for permanent groups are availabl for dynamic assignment to transient groups which exist only as long as they have members.

2) MSB: Most Significent Bit:
In set numbers the first number on the left is the most important because it
holds the highest value as opposed to the LSB=> least significent bit, it
always holds the the smallest value.

How to build our own computer by using a scrap ?

In this tutorial I will try an teach you how to successfully build your own computer! There are many benefits to building your own computer.
  1. You get hand's on experience learning how a computer works
  2. Its a hell of alot less expensive then buying one from a retailer
  3. Its a hell of alot more reliable than buying one from a retailer being that you hand select QUALITY parts and put it togethor yourself.
  4. You can do your own tech support no more relying on stupid Best Buy Tech's that don't know the difference between their ass and a hard disk jumper (don't worry I'll tell you what those are later)

Section #1 (What Your Going To Need)

  1. A Computer Case
    • Should only run you about 50 dollars
    • Beware the cheap ones with cheap power supplies they will die in a year
  2. A Mother Board (Everything Will Be Plugged Into The Mother Board)
  3. A Floppy Drive and a CDROM (Should Be Obvious)
  4. A Hard Disk (Come In Many Different Flavors and Quality Levels, Stores All The Information In Your Computer)
  5. A Video Card (Cheap Stuff, Its What Your Monitor Plugs Into)
  6. IDE Controller Ribbon
  7. Miscellaneous Accessories

Next we'll take a look at many of the different options you have when buying these pieces of equipment. Your choice
may vary depending on which Operating Systems you plan on running.

Section #2 (Which Brand And Model Should I Buy?)

We'll lets start with your computer case and move all the way down to Miscellaneous Accessories..

1. Computer Case

We need an ATX style case with a quality power supply. How do you tell? Well if the case is only 15-20 bucks theres a pretty good chance its a crappy power supply.

2. A Mother Board

ASUS (ATX style to match your computer case) mother board its up to you ask your friends.
I've had bad experiences personally with FIC mother boards.

3. A Floppy Drive and CDROM

Pretty inexpensive stuff, i'd suggest a Sony Floppy drive and a generic CDROM. Doesn't make too much a difference if your concerned about getting the best price.

4. Hard Disks

If you want reliability, high speed transfers, and are willing to run Windows I suggest a Western Digital or a Seagate ULTRA DMA-66. If your not to concerned with speed and want to run a server with Unix i'd go with a Fujitsu or a Western Digital. Their farely inexpensive but only transfer in 33 megabit bursts as apposed to the DMA-66 which transfer in 33 megabit bursts. I don't believe Unix currently supports ULTRA DMA-66, but don't quote me on that. Now there's an even faster transfer rate available via SCSI Hard Disk Controllers, but i'm not about to go into setting up SCSI controllers in this tutorial. For now we will stick with IDE Hard Disk controllers.

5. Video Cards

Video cards are cheap and if your not a gamer a plain ole gener Cirrus Logic or STB video card will do fine.

6. IDE Controller Ribbon

You'll need 2 different kinds of IDE Ribbon 2 40 pins for your CDROM and Hard Disk and Another with less pins for your floppy. You can buy these at any local computer store or order them off the web.

7. Miscellaneous Stuff

You may be interested in adding a sound card, ethernet card, and/or 3DFX card to your system. These are relatively easy to do .

Section #3 (Lets Assemble!)

This next part is very important so read carefully...

  1. First things first get yourself a clean desk to work on.

  2. Place your ATX stlye computer case on the desk and slide/lift the top off. Inside should be a bunch of wires coming out
of the power supply in the back and a bunch of wires coming out near the face of the box.

  3. The next thing your going to want to do is place your mother board inside the case and fasten it in. Their might be
metal coverings covering the holes in the computer case were the parralel ports and serial ports on the mother board
should poke through, go ahead and poke those out with a screw drive so you can fit the mother board in snuggly. Every
Case fastens mother boards in different ways. Some use plastic pegs, some use metal screws. It will hopefully be obvious
    which you have to use.

  4. The mother board is mounted properly you will need to fasten the floppy drive, and cdrom into the computer case.
All computer cases store floppy drives differently there maybe a slide out container that you screw them into. You'll
have to make sure that the the floppy drive is right side up (duh!) and that the pins are facing towards the back of the
computer. Installing the CDROM is pretty much the same in all computer cases. Some mounting rails should have come
with your mother board. You need to fasten those to the sides of the CDROM and you should be able to slide it right in
to one of the top bays.

  5. Insert your Video Card. There are presently about 3 differnet forms of slots on your mother board. PCI, ISA, and AGP.
Video Cards are presently made for all 3 of them. AGP stands for "Accelrated Graphics Port" Video Cards made for this
slot are generally more high tech/performance. PCI's work and so do ISA (Althoug ISA is more Old School). Gee how
do I tell the difference? Well AGP slots more than likely is the only small, brown, slot on your mother board. PCI
you probably have the most of these their white and little longer than AGP. ISA, these are longggg and black, ugly.
Insert your Video Card and snug it in there firmly. Don't force it (duh).

  6. Time for that evil Hard Disk installation. We'll Hit hooking up the power supplies and Installing the Hard Disk at the
same time just for fun. Insert the Hard Disk In a very much similar way to the way you inserted the floppy disk. But
Before you do make sure that the jumper settings are correct on the back of Har Disk. Most hard disks are shipped in
single mode, but if you want to run multiple hard disks (which we won't discuss) you need to set the jumpers differently.
Jumpers are little metal prongs connected with little jumpers that complete a connection. You figure it out. Anyway
you got your hard disk in now its time to hook up the power supplies. The hard disk and the CDROM have similar power supp
lies. 3 or 4 prong. Hook those funny looking cords coming out of the back of the power supply into your CDROM and Hard
Disk. Theres a smaller one that hooks into your floppy it should be obvious. Theres a big power supply (the biggest one
in the lot usually made of white plastic) It fits into a slot on your mother board, it is the main power supply to your
mother board. Its kind of tricky to get in so be careful.

  7. Now that you have your Power Supplies hooked up you'll need to connect your Periphrials to your Mother Board. Use the IDE
Controller Ribbon I know you all have. Hey one end goes to your CDROM (make sure the red line on the ribbon "pin 1" is
matched up with the first pin on the back of your CDROM) and the other end goes to your mother board (same deal). The
same goes for your hard disk and yoru floppy. Figure it out its not that difficult. You'll know you did something wrong
when you get a floppy disk fail on boot.

  8. Finishing touches. Don't forget to connect those nasty wires coming out from behind the face of your computer case to
your mother board. They control the on, off, reset, hard disk activity, and power switch. Every mother board is different
so i hope you have a manual with your mother board. Most specify with 2 or 3 character paraphrases that make no sense.
For Example "PWR SWT" = Power Switch "RST SWT" = Reset Switch. Or even more vague than that.

Section #4 (Testing 1, 2, 3)

Ok your ready to give it a whirl, you'll need to get in your system bios. The "DEL" key should usually get you in. Get it to autodetect your hard disk. Accept the Setting and Save your Configurations. Install Your OS and your ready to go.

How to Change The Storage Location Of 'my Documents', bit safer for when your PC crashes...

I just found out about this today, and I use Windows XP for some time now, so i guess there are others out there who don't know about this yet.

Normally windows saves the "My Documents" folder on your C-drive.

But when you right-click on it and go to properties, you can change the location where you want windows to save your Documents folder.

I have a partition set up with just windows on it, and all my things i want to keep are on different partitions/disks. So now I put My Documents on another partition than where I have windows installed.

If windows screws up and you have to format your C-drive again, your documents will be spared at least...

How to Change Text on XP Start Button

Step 1 : Modify Explorer.exe File

In order to make the changes, the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows needs to be edited. Since explorer.exe is a binary file it requires a special editor.

I have used Resource Hacker. Resource HackerTM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.

Get this from http://delphi.icm.edu.pl/ftp/tools/ResHack.zip

  • first step is to make a backup copy of the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer.
  • Place it in a folder somewhere on your hard drive where it will be safe.
  • Start Resource Hacker and open explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer.exe.

We are going to be using is "String Table". Expand it by clicking the plus sign then navigate down to and expand string 37 followed by highlighting 1033. If you are using the Classic Layout rather than the XP Layout, use number 38. The right hand pane will display the stringtable. We’re going to modify item 578, currently showing the word “start” just as it displays on the current Start button.

You’ll notice that after the new text string has been entered the Compile Script button that was grayed out is now active. I won’t get into what’s involved in compiling a script, but suffice it to say it’s going to make this exercise worthwhile. Click Compile Script and then save the altered file using the Save As command on the File Menu. Do not use the Save command – Make sure to use the Save As command and choose a name for the file. Save the newly named file to C:\Windows.

Step 2 – Modify the Registry

!!!make a backup of your registry before making changes!!!

Now that the modified explorer.exe has been created it’s necessary to modify the registry so the file will be recognized when the user logs on to the system. If you don’t know how to access the registry I’m not sure this article is for you, but just in case it’s a temporary memory lapse, go to Start (soon to be something else) Run and type regedit in the Open field. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon

In the right pane, double click the "Shell" entry to open the Edit String dialog box. In Value data: line, enter the name that was used to save the modified explorer.exe file. Click OK.

Close Registry Editor and either log off the system and log back in, or reboot the entire system if that’s your preference. If all went as planned you should see your new Start button with the revised text.[/b]

B.A. regedit

Any of you that do websites and like to open .html and similar files in notepad to edit scrpits, this is THE coolest windows registry edit ever
you can download the zip file with the .reg in it (run it and it automatically adds itself to your registry) or do it manually
CODE

http://www.geocities.com/ichbindeingott5/winXP-Notepad.zip

Manually: regedit and navigate to
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\*\Shell
  • add the key "notepad"
  • it's default value should be "Open with Notepad"
  • now, under "notepad", add the key "Command"
  • it's default value should be (with the quotes) "C:\Windows\System32\Notepad.exe" "%1"

ok, exit regedit and go right click on ANY file...

your new option: Open with Notepad

i know this one works on XP and 2000, you can PROBABLY enter it manually on windows 9x, but i have not tested that
