World's First Single-Screen Tablet Textbook

Kno, Inc. has announced a single-screen version of its tablet textbook, which extends the functionality of the dual-screen version announced at the D8 2010 Conference in June this year. The double-screened e-reader features dual 35.8-cm (14.1-inch) capacitive IPS displays (1440 x 900 each) and weighs 5.5 pounds, while the single-screen version is said to be one-half the original product. Running a Tegra 2 chip with 16GB of storage, the dual-screen tablet offers six to eight hours of battery life.

"Kno fundamentally improves the way students learn," said Osman Rashid, the CEO and Co-founder, Kno, Inc. "We are driven to innovate in a category that has been static for too long. Even though the Kno pays for itself in 13 months, the smaller up front investment of the single screen version will allow more students to use our learning platform."

Both the single and two-screen tablet textbooks are likely to hit the market by the end of 2010. Though the company said that "pricing and pre-order announcements will be made in the coming months", the double-display model is reportedly going to be priced at under $1,000.
