Cisco Systems has launched a videoconferencing system for $ 599 per home, competing with Skype and other providers of low cost.
The initiative is an effort by the maker of network equipment to expand its presence in the market for consumer services.
The high price and monthly fee of $ 24.99, can make it difficult for Cisco to win great support from consumers, many of whom use free services online videoconferencing.
The TelePresence system, called “Umi,” includes a camera and a console that connects to a conventional TV and high definition work via high-speed connection on the Internet. The strongest selling point is the high definition video in real time, without oscillations and disruptions of online services free or at low cost. The service also offers unlimited number of links, resources and storage of video VIDEO-MESSAGE.
The product will be available in November and can be ordered in advance on the Cisco website.
Cisco already sells videoconferencing systems with high-capacity enterprise. The systems installed in order to simulate the environment of a council room can cost about $ 300,000 per unit.
