human heart Cardiac Patients Could Get An Early Warning System Paired With Their Cell Phones

Ask any individual with an acute cardiac condition, what their biggest worry is, most of them would inevitably tell you that, their utmost concern is the sudden rise or decline of their heart beats, which is also known as arrhythmia. Such a condition in extreme cases could lead to complicated surgeries or even prove to be fatal, if not checked at the proper time. However, researchers at the Dutch research organization IMEC, have now apparently figured a new way to intimate the patients of such cardiac conditions, as to when to take it slow and let them know when their conditions begin to show signs of malignancy. This all new approach is based upon the theory of creating a Body Area Network or BAN between a patient and his cell phone.

Also known as the Human++ BAN platform, the system has been designed to take advantage of the ultra-low-power electrocardiogram sensors developed at IMEC and create a wireless short range network, where in a patient’s condition is displayed on his cell phone and this information can then also be relayed to his doctor or to a physician via a wifi or 3G connection. Furthermore, the Human ++ BAN system can even alert the patients, when they need to slow down their activities, before anything bad happens. This incredible system is the brainchild of Julien Penders, and the system is stated to be compatible with other low-power medical sensors as well, including electroencephalograms (EEGs) to monitor neurological conditions or electromyograms to detect neuromuscular diseases.
