Internet Explorer 9 Beta 1 Is Here!

Finally the curtain has been raised on the much-anticipated Internet Explorer 9 (IE9). Microsoft, today, unveiled the beta of the much-hyped version of its Web browser. If you want to test drive the IE9, you can download the browser at the URL BeautyOfTheWeb.com. Microsoft is sure focussed on beautifying the Web. IE9 is built for speed, exploits HTML5, CSS3 and other modern Web technologies, and has a much simpler UI. Just one caveat, IE9 only works on computers running on Windows, with Bing as the default search engine.
Microsoft has lost most of its market share to Firefox and Chrome. With the release of IE9, the software giant wants to reclaim its throne as the best browser to surf the Web on. IE9 is a complete overhaul of its predecessor. It has everything one likes about a browser. Microsoft has streamlined the interface, allowing you to focus more on content and less on the browser.

IE9 also has the ability to turn any website into an application on the Windows taskbar. The feature that really impressed me is the addition of three pinned websites, which makes accessing frequently accessed bookmarks faster. Then there is the great feature that includes Windows 7's jump lists; any website that supports them provides a quick menu to its most popular Web pages.

What makes IE9 stand out and take advantage in the browser race, is its hardware acceleration. IE9 harnesses the computer's hardware to accelerate both media and text. The result -- IE9 is able to read and run heavy graphic interfaces far better than its competitors, Firefox or Chrome.

The test runs did bring forth the fact that this is but a beta. The browser crashed and stopped responding a few times, mostly when trying to access media. Irrespective of the crashes, the IE9 experience was worth a try. Microsoft is on the right direction with IE9, and I hope they continue on the same path.
