Apple has assured that the future updates will remove the software completely. It is worth mentioning here that handset makers like Nokia and Research In Motion have already clarified that they don’t use Carrier IQ.
Carrier IQ had allegedly inked deals with major handset manufacturers and carriers to provide this data collection service for the purpose of diagnosing service issues, such as dropped calls, battery problems, and any other network issues to help make customer service more efficient.

Apple stopped supporting CarrierIQ with iOS 5 in most of our products and will remove it completely in the future software update. With any diagnostic data sent to Apple, customers must actively opt-in to share this information, and if they do, the data is sent in an anonymous and encrypted form and does not include any personal information.
We never recorded keystrokes, messages or any other personal information for diagnostic data and have no plans to ever do so.
