Google to buy Motorola mobility to super charge the Android OS


Google agreed to acquire Motorola Mobility Holdings for $12.5 billion gives the search giant a more significant direct involvement in the design and production of mobile phone hardware and shores up a valuable intellectual property portfolio.

This deal will give the company access to Motorola's more than 17,000 patents related to wireless technology.The Android platform is on its way to becoming the eventual leading OS in the smartphone market due to its wide OEM support.
Google will be in direct competition with its licencees  With Samsung, Huawei or even HTC adjust their strategies by emphasising a competing platform?

Motorola Mobility has a healthy business in the digital home, broadband cable modems and set-top boxes.Its strategy has been to promote a 'TV everywhere' solution.

Hong Kong listed contract handset manufacturer Foxconn International said Google's acquisition of Motorola Mobility Holdings will be positive for its key client Motorola.Google is a strong shareholder and the deal should benefit operations of our client, Motorola. We are a close partner with Motorola and we don't expect the deal to change our relationship with the company," said Vincent Tong, spokesman of Foxconn International.
