Indian electronics To touch $350 billion by 2020

Indian electronics industry is poised to attain a size of over $350 billion by 2020 from the present level of $45 billion, according to consulting firm Frost & Sullivan (F&S).

Even the semiconductor policy announced in early 2007 did not address this issue, the report added. This delayed announcement in the semiconductor policy, the report pointed out, led to India losing Intel's manufacturing plant to China. Further, the timing of the policy coincided with a global slowdown, which affected investment flow into semiconductor fabrication sector.

Ashwani Kumar, the minister of state science and technology said the government was in the process of finalizing a number of initiatives, which included a special incentive package for investments in manufacturing, and setting up of a National Electronics Mission and an Electronics Development Fund.
