And attracted many international medical device makers to ramp up business operations and for late entrants to strike local partnerships over the past two-three years.
The $6-billion company, which makes various electronics components and also controls around half of global market of digital blood pressure monitors, already sells a dozen of its medical device products through 30 local distributors in India.
Omron already has plants in Japan, China and Vietnam.
India is a huge untapped market for medical devices used in diagnosis and treatment of lifestyle-related illness such as hypertension, diabetes and heart problems which are growing with economic prosperity.
For instance, it is estimated over 130 million patients suffer from hypertension, but penetration of blood pressure monitoring device is a mere 0.5%.
